Tracking The Rut

                                                 Rut Meter: 72%

Ok folks, the rut meter is on the move and things are beginning to happen in the woods. Bucks are moving about and making does uncomfortable everywhere they gather. Mock chases and sparring matches are everyday occurrences, if you are home watching the game or raking leaves, you are missing the prelude to the greatest show on earth. The main event can break out anytime now and the meter still has some room to climb.

Weather watching is key at this stage of the rut’s progress. Cold weather under 50 degrees means plenty of movement warm weather, not so much. Weather is always a region-specific factor.

Before we call “drop everything, rut on, we are looking for some more hard markers, like: old age bucks to begin moving in the day, and some estrus driven chasing, and of course bucks mounting does, chances are there signs will be everywhere in a few days or so.

All things considered, we are entering the red zone and the woods are where you want to be for the next week or two. Stay tuned for the “call”!
