For saltwater and freshwater anglers alike, the winter months usually signal a slowing down in fishing. In Southern California, anglers must endure a two-month closure for rockfish (sebastes family of fish) and the water is too cold for most of the “exotics.” Many of the boats are off the water and use this time for their annual maintenance and Coast Guard inspections. For anglers, now is also a good time to do some gear maintenance.
