If you have a very successful season, consider donating venison to a food bank.

Brother, Can You Spare an Elk?

The National Deer Alliance will publicize the importance of venison donation programs.

Hunters provide millions of meals to hungry families across the nation by donating excess venison. Sometimes the hunter can simply take the harvested animal to a local butcher shop and drop it off. Other times, the sportsman can pay for the processing, with the meat going directly to a local food bank. Western hunters often use this latter option if they take a mule deer or an elk late in their season and have no way to inexpensively get their harvest home.

Unfortunately, the media loves to yell about Cecil, but you rarely hear a news story about feeding thousands of people with the very best organic, gluten-free protein around. Thankfully, the National Deer Alliance will promote these types of programs during the coming year. If you have a very successful hunting year, please consider donation to a local Hunters Feeding the Hungry program. Here’s more information from Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry.
