Rut Meter: 85%

Rut on, yep, the words you have been waiting to hear, if the rut is not ripping and snorting on your back 40, chances it is happening on the neighbors. We have been hearing from scores of rut watchers and the reports of “rut on” are coming in hourly, the older bucks are up and about and the does are all nervous and jerky. We’re setting the meter at a solid 85%, the chances of catching some rut action are pretty darn good. They are not 100% but if you put in your time, you have a pretty good chance of being rewarded with some action, this is not the time to watch football on TV.

A breeding party can break out on your hunting grounds any hour now.

The rut is on the move and you never know where it will break out next, case in point, we put in a half dozen sits earlier this week with little return on our time, in fact we saw very few bucks on our favorite property, we shifted locations (farms) and were covered up with rutting 8 pointers including the boss of the bunch who followed his girlfriend to parts unknown. Nothing location “A”, all kinds of action location “B”.
Our rut meter still has some climb left in it, chances are it will hit 100% next week or shortly thereafter not all of the does are in heat but they sure are close to being ready to breed. Deer being what they are, and estrus being what it is, a breeding party can break out on your hunting grounds any hour now, we still have lots of breeding ahead, let’s hope your next sit is one that has “rut” written all over it.
