Whitetail deer and wild turkeys enjoy the same foods and often feed at the same place and time.

Will Wild Turkey Scare Deer? The Pictures Don’t Lie

For lucky hunters in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and other states that open their fall turkey and deer seasons at the same time, archers have a chance to “double-up” and take one or both species from the same stand.

Occasionally, sportsmen speak to deer being afraid of wild turkeys, either because they don’t like the commotion of their scratching in the leaves, or perhaps the two just avoid contact.

The above photo seems to debunk this theory, as a young buck watches several longbeards scratch for food at his favorite feeding area, all while under my stand. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to seal the deal, but the trail camera doesn’t lie.
