Bucks drop their antlers at just about any time, at any place, once deer season is in its final stages.
Some states have deer seasons running so late into the year, bucks sometimes drop their antlers before the season is over and are mistakenly shot for does.
This hunter shoots a buck with his bow, and the buck immediately sheds his antlers. A couple of days later and this buck could have been mistaken for a doe by a hunter.
